Textbook: Calculus 6e(Early Transcendentals Version) by Edwards & Penney

Calculator: Graphing calculator is not required. Any scientific calculator with trig/exp/log functions is good.

 

Course description: Introduction to vector algebra; lines and planes. Functions of several variables: partial derivatives, gradients, chain rule, directional derivative, maxima/minima. Multiple integrals, cylindrical and spherical coordinates. Derivatives of vector valued functions, velocity and acceleration. Vector fields, line integrals, Green's theorem.

 

Grading: Final course grade is based on

                         Homework                        100 pts.

                         Quizzes                              100 pts.

                         Midterm 1 (Feb 9)              100 pts.

                         Midterm 2 (Mar 3)              100 pts.

                         Midterm 3 (Apr 12)             100 pts.

                         Final Exam(Apr 30)              200 pts.

 

 

Homework   Homework problems will be assigned daily. They provide practice and help you understand course materials. You are encouraged to discuss them with other students and bring up any questions in class. You only need to turn in some of the problems once a week.

 

Quizzes   They are given roughly once a week. There is no make-up quiz. The lowest quiz will be dropped.

 

Exams   There are 3 Midterms and 1 Final scheduled according to the course schedule. Only the Dean of Undergraduate Studies may authorize any other examination time, or make-ups of exams that have been missed. You must let the instructor know any changes in advance.

 

Attendance   Class attendance is expected. Attendance will not be recorded.When you miss a class, it is strongly recommended that you contact other students or the instructor to get up to date on announcements, homework, etc.
