you know the saying, "a picture is worth 1000 words," well this picture definately fits that qoute. It was our team goal in high school for four years to make it to states, and we never made it. I never made it individually either, in cross country I passed out 300m from the finish missing states, in track regionals i led the race going into the final straight away and was then passed by three people right at the end. then came college, a second chance. every year i have been here, its been our final goal to qualify to nationals. my junior year we started off the season killing everybody, and finished not even close to nationals, 6th place at regionals. during senior year regionals we were all so nervous before the race, all the training we had been doing for four years (and even before then) led up to that very moment. we took off that november saturday in hanover indiana and ran strong, together, as a team. halfway through the race we were still together, nobody could believe it, we were sitting in second place (3 teams made it). i was our 5th runner in that race (5 count for scoring) and as i finished, i heard coach bill yelling at me, "you made it, you guys made it!" i had such an addrenaline rush and took off for the last 400m. i started to feel for a little while that i was going to start wavering and fall down as i had done in cross country my senior year of high school, but this time, that wasn't gonna happen, we were going to make it, and we did. we finished 3rd place behind calvin and albion, 20 points ahead of 4th place (and favored) otterbien. i just recently looked back at race results and realized that if i had been only 15 seconds slower, we wouldnt have made it. thats not much of a difference, seeing as i ran 40s slower at nationals. wow, i'm still amazed. after the race i started to feel pretty sick, i think i threw up a few times, and i was seriously illin. this picture was taken when i tried to jog a little bit of a cool down, but opted instead just to lay down on the course. everybody ran over to me to see if i was okay, and i was, i was very okay, thats why i'm smiling in the picture, my team and i just accomplished our ultimate goal and it brings a tear to the eye anytime i look at this picture and think about it. i felt sick on the bus ride home, i had a hard time stomaching our celebration meal at outback steakhouse, and felt sick for the rest of the day, i didn't stop feeling sick until halfway through the week. i ran my hardest at that race, we worked together and we made it to the NCAA division iii championship meet, it was the best day of my life.

a bunch of the girls team did jello wrestling, so we all decided to paint our chests in support. brenda ended up fighting
off an angry horde of girls to claim first prize in the competition winning a one hudred dollar bounty. all in all, a pretty fun time! i didn't end up getting any pictures tho, so i had to steal this off one of the girls websites.

this is a sneak picture i took of my arm x-ray right after they took my cast off. man i wore that f'in cast for a long time.
it took a couple days for me to be able to bend my elboqw all the way again. who knew track could be such a dangerous sport!! i guess i did always kind of think it would be cool to break a bone
during competition though... it's really not as cool as you'd think it would be, especially when you go on a trip to myrtle
beach.

jake was my roommate last year, and it worked out great, despite the fact that he was "doing
laundry" just about 24/7. doerk is also one of my good friends, and like jake he cleans his
clothes much more often than what is neccesary. have you tried the doerkburger? i hear
it's delicious!... anyways, it's always a blast hangin out with these two.

and where us phi taus call home. at this particular time greg (kraig) - the only freshman
on the floor and katy the psuedo phi tau from the girls suite are doing some studying.

after the famed greg & greg vs. greg & greg wrestling match, gregory steven the cross country runner, along
with his partner gregory steven the cross country runner won. (not to be confused with gregory
stevens the cross country runner) greg and greg were mildly disappointed with their narrow defeat,
but were confident that next time they would get revenge on greg, who they claim is a drity
basterd.

my conveniently sized potato gun affectionately known as the lil' crapper. this puppy can
shoot spuds to distances of approximately 200 ft while sucessfully keeping noise to a minimum.
as an additional feature, the gun is also detachable at its center, which allows for breach
loading of the spuds. perfect for those occasions when you need the fire power of idaho's finest,
but want to keep a low profile.

at one of the usual luetner late nights, an offer was put on the table that whoever could eat
all the bananas in the cafeteria would recieve a cash reward as large as ten dollars! jason,
felling overconfident, said "there's not that many bananas, i could do that no problem." so,
we gathered up all the bananas in luetner, brought them back to clarke, and jason got busy.
he only ended up downing about 15, which was half the total, and he didn't even puke! it was
still good entertainment though, among other motivational statements we gave him was "c'mon
people in china do this sort of stuff all the time, they call it king foo or something."

jake was unsuccessful in his cleansing efforts, although he did get vince to reveal the famous
