Introduction

At the time, World War I was termed "The War to End All Wars." While later history has proven that this war did not end all wars, the significance that World War I has had on later history is undeniable. One way in which World War I dramatically altered future history is related to how wars were fought. New weapons were introduced which increased the loss of life and made war far more terrible and brutal than ever before.

You are one of a group of four American newspapers reporter writing for a major American paper. Many American "doughboys" are currently fighting in World War I, and rumors of new, terrible weapons of war are floating back to America, causing much panic, concern, and interest. Your editor has instructed the four of you to go over to Europe and write a piece which covers the new kinds of weapons. Additionally, because readers always love hearing what the soldiers have to say, your editor has asked you to include some compelling quotes from soldiers about the reality of war and the terror brought by these new weapons. Furthermore, your editor has instructed you to use proper grammar and to write a well-organized article in which the firsthand accounts of the soldiers are integrated along with the descriptions of the weapons--excitement and hurry are no excuse to write poorly! Due to the fact that traveling is very unsafe and dangerous, the four of you are required to travel in a group as much as possible and to produce one amazing article which will excite and inform American readers and sell a large number of papers!
