A year and a half after Apple introduced the iPod; iTunes was what made the iPod sales soar. The competition thought that Apple lost, but they were proved wrong in April of 2003. Apple had made a seamless integration between acquiring and playing digital music. Apple's sales soared from that point on now with a current market share of 87% of all digital music players at the end of August this year. On July 18 th , 2005 iTunes sold its 500 millionth song. Apple shipped 6,451,000 iPods during the forth quarter of this year compared to 125,000 in the quarter that they were released. year compared to 125,000 in the quarter that they were released.

Apple has evidently done what the competition did not have the foresight to see. Apple had a simple strategy that succeeded. Make a usable player that has excellent software support, which is linked to an on-line store. Apple has capitalized on the fact that consumers are lazy and made a seamless integration of products to define the digital music age. Apple realized the true possibility of the hardware technology and then applied human nature to their business strategies. Apple is now focusing on the video technology arena. Apple introduced iTunes 6 and a new video enabled iPod earlier this year. During the first 20 days of iTunes 6, one million videos were downloaded. Apple continues its innovation of technological integration to an emerging new media.
