Saturday

23OCT2004 :: 11:03pm :: Okahandja, Namibia :: Bedroom
Slept in some today, as today wasn't a strict work day. We had a breakfast of jam and butter on rolls, and shared an apple and a banana. Worked on and off all day painting the substructure of the secondfloor walkway. It is quite taxing to paint above your head while standing on a latter. We tried to do our laundry today in the center's small washer, with much difficulty; electric plugs are at a premium in the old part of the center, and the washing machine was a lower proirity than the electric grinder. This was fine, if someone would have told us; several times we went down to check on the laundry to find it had been unplugged. Anyway, we succeeded with one small load, and let it hang dry. Part of the team today went to a game park/farm nearby and saw a superb amount of animals (springboks, giraffes, warthogs, rhinos, lions, and other such non-american creatures); we had a chance to go as well, but turned it down due to the cost. We were invited by Hein and Nadine to watch the South African provincial championships in rugby this afternoon. The Blue Bulls beat the Cheetahs, much to Jos's liking. It was my first time watching a rugby match, and I quite enjoyed it. It is an interesting mix of (american) football and soccer, requiring both excellent tactics and physique. I think I picked up most of the major rules in one match, without bothering them too much with questions. We had a supper of leftovers from the team lunch that we missed; Nadine had made some tuna pasta salad that was good. Kate's mother then called us at the prearranged time, and we had a good chat with her for about an hour. Then we swung back by the common dining room, where the Oregon team was showing pictures from their time at the Keetmanshoop childrens' home. Then we retired to our suite for a devotional reading, journaling, and prayer time.
Piper challenged us with a characteristic of God, espousing the fact that God never sleeps (stays away all night, as he put it) and is constantly working on our behalf. This is very encouraging, knowing that God is working around the clock for us. Praying ferverently about our meeting tomorrow with Jos to discuss our roles here at Christ's Hope.
