Rest

24OCT2004 :: 10:07pm :: Okahandja, Namibia :: Bedroom
Today started off with breakfast with Jos, CHI's international director, and his wife (Sylvia) at a little ostrich farm, restaraunt, and gift shop near here called Ombo. I didn't take any big risks as far as the selction goes, and had a tasty toasted ham and cheese sandwich (I opted out of the crocidile steak). We talked about the possibility of us going up to a city in the north part of the country (Oshikati, about 4.5 hrs north of here). Basically, they have the money and land to build another orphanage there, and are waiting on a building permit from the government there. They don't expect it to go through until at least the end of November, when their elections are over. Then, i guess the whole country pretty much stops working for Christmas break, which is their summer holiday. So if we were to go up there and be project managers for this building project, it wouldn't be until the begining of the year. We would be working with some native guys who are here now working on the international center, where we are staying. So we'll be here in Okahandja for the rest of the year doing odd jobs and helping out where needed, and then may go up north, unless something else comes up, or someone more qualified becomes available. We'll see what the Lord does. After our breakfast trip, we came home and lounged around for a long time, reading and messing around on the computer. They don't do any real work here on Sunday, or go to church, because there really isn't a decent one to go to. Later in the afternoon, we unpacked all of our bags and got the suite settled in as best we could. It was really hot today; almost 90 degrees inside in the shade, and outside in the sun it was brutal. Walked around the complex and took some pictures to be posted on our website. Tonight was the last night the Oregon team would be here; Hein grilled up some mutton steaks, sausage of some sort, and beef kabobs that were really good. After dinner, we had a little church service, officiated by the pastor from the Oregon team. He taught out of Romans 7 about how we are no longer slaves to sin, but free from the law. The law makes us aware of our sin, and the sin that is within us causes us to do what we do not want to do. We must purify our minds to rid ourselves of this sin. Read the first few chapters of Job today; what a guy he was! His faithfulness to the Lord in the midst of incredible strife is encouraging to me. I hope that I have that kind of faith, should it be required someday.
