"AVEO Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Cambridge, Mass., acquired an exclusive license from Tokyo-based Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd. to develop and commercialize Kirin’s once-a-day, oral VEGF receptor inhibitor, KRN951 , in all territories outside of Asia. KRN951 is in a 30-patient Phase I trial in solid tumors and AVEO expects to begin Phase II studies by mid-2007, with an initial focus on renal-cell carcinoma.  Financial terms were not disclosed."

Pulled from today's Bionews Today.    Why haven't American breweries moved into bio-pharm fermentations?

Here are the Umphrey's Setlists from our NYE run at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The shows were a lot of fun, quite relaxed, and contained a good amount if inter-band interplay. I was truly impressed by the Aragon Ballroom. It's truly a ballroom with a large oval; dance floor ringed by a detailed spanish castle. There's a lot of nice, slightly hippie painting in the rest rooms, on the ceiling etc. There's just a great atmosphere. It's als9o neat that Kates grandparents used to go Ballroom dancing there back in the days of big bands. Everything turns full circle.

There were a lot of musical high lights from all of the sit ins. (I'm partial to Los Lobos members, and Jeff Coffin but it was just awesome to see the band share the stage with Taj Mahal). The memory that will stick out the most was the NYE Encore. Hearing Bayliss and Farag give their take on the SNL song Dick in a Box was utter hilarity and of course complete with a four piece horn section. Umphrey's is not a band to skimp on the budget for a joke. They also throw a fine party, complete with favors (plastic pimp hats, feathered NYE tiera's, and leis).

It looks like the Brits have decided to speculate about the future of the liberal agenda, and to begin planning ways to prevent the inevitable cylon rebellion.  Fortunately, they recognize that we're at least 20 years away from robots demanding emancipation and equality of rights.

Really, there's no point investing in robots if we only have 20 years of guilt free servitude.  We can ride the feel good vibes of developing the third world for at least that long.

Here's what I did/saw on my weekend. 12/2/06 was to to bottom one of the strongest UM shows that I've ever seen. It's top 3 for sure.

NYC was fun, more relaxed than our prior trips. Our visit to the Audi Forum was an easy high light. The guy was awesome, and actually said "what, are you scared" as he encouraged us to get into a fully loaded A8. It was awesome.

The Brooklyn Brewery tour was lack luster. It was a one room lecture, and they didn't include any free samples. There was a tasting room with $3.00 cups and a lot of locals. The high point of our visit was meeting the brewery cat, Monster.

Fortunately, we also visited Mugs Ale house, a well rated beer bar, and enjoyed some Belgian brews.

The eating was good as well. We hit a multi unit Thai restaurant on 9th ave, in the 40s for dinner on Friday and an excellent Italian place (Pasta Presto??)e with a nice, inexpensive 3 course prix fixe on second in the fifties.
