the Diva Suite

Welcome to The Diva Suite! On this collection of pages you'll find every single tidbit of information I've been able to find on the Diva and the actress that portrayed her, Maïwenn Le Besco. Also every picture I could find :-) I've spent an enormous amount of time on these pages, so I'd like to say this just once: please don't steal info from here without giving credit for it. That includes the pictures (several of which you won't find elsewhere). All I ask for is a little mention...ok? If you want to send me some info I don't have (please do!!), email me at the address below. I'm always sure I give credit to my sources, as you will see as you browse around. Thanks for dropping by...

General Information: The Diva's name is Plavalaguna, although she is often referred to simply as "The Diva". She is an exotic human-alien hybrid that sings once every ten years, for about five minutes, at the hotel Fhloston Paradise. Anybody who is anybody is there, for good reason. She's "the" Diva because she is *the* best. Her voice is captivating, her form stunning. Her role in the film was as the protector of the four sacred stones that are necessary for Leeloo to function as a weapon against evil. She was entrusted with the stones by the Mondoshawan, who didn't fully trust Earth. Indeed, the Mondoshawan ship *supposedly* carrying the stones was destroyed entering Federation space by two Mangalore warships that attacked it from behind. Only Leeloo survived the attack, and then just barely. The scene in which the Diva sings her concert is considered one of the best scenes in the movie by many people I have spoken to, and by me (resoundingly!) as well. A jam-packed theater completely silent must be seen/heard to be believed. It's a beautiful scene. The Diva is played by Maïwenn Le Besco, with her singing voice provided by Inva Mulla Tchako. In the film she sings a segment of Lucia Di Lammermoor.

I feel it should be noted: The Fifth Element is the first film I have seen that manages to make a very alien form become quite stunningly and unexpectedly beautiful. One must congratulate not only Maïwenn Le Besco and Luc Besson but also Nick Dudman, Jean Paul Gaultier, Inva Mulla Tchako, and Eric Serra for making the Diva who she is.

Things to see.

The Role of The Diva -- in the film and in the novelization.

Images of The Diva -- See the Diva, literally.

Questions (answers?) -- Things I don't know, that I'd like to.

Lyrics to the Concert -- Layed out for you and translated.

Information: Maïwenn Le Besco -- Everything I know about this actress.

Information: Inva Mulla Tchako -- Ditto, above.

Lucia Di Lammermoor -- The whole thing, not just the 5th part.

MORE TO COME hopefully.
I hereby certify that I am not obsessed with the Diva in "that way." By "that way", I mean the way in which a sick minded individual would have immediately caught the meaning of my saying "that way." If you do not know which context of "that way" I am speaking in, you are either too young or I don't have to worry about you. I'm interested in the beauty of the character, her role, and the scene. If *you* are here because you are interested in the Diva in "that way", please go away. No freaks on my site but ME thanks :-)
