Unum Christian Fellowship

Core Beliefs

We believe in one God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  This Three-in-One God has created people in His own image (Imago Dei) and has called them to embody and reflect His holiness through obedience to His commandments.  Because humans have tragically failed in this responsibility and instead have fallen into a state of moral decay, we have separated ourselves from our Creator.

Because our heavenly Father has an unimaginably true and deep love for us, God  engaged in an incredibly sacrificial rescue operation, which he has accomplished on behalf of humanity in the realm of reality and history. The ultimate display of this redemption plan is centered around the historical incarnation of God in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. We believe that this Jesus is the Christ of the Old Testament prophecy, being at the same time fully God and fully man.  By physically dying and experiencing a physical resurrection, Jesus fully paid the cosmic price for the sins of all mankind.  The divine sacrifice of Jesus' life provides the justification for us to stand before God and have a relationship with Him, which we receive by faith.  When we begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, we become part of the community of human believers across all of creation, and our spirits are freed to live fully.  We desire to be active members of this body of believers, who joyfully serve both within and outside of the family of God.

The risen and ascended Christ has sent the Holy Spirit, the last of the three personas of God, to dwell in the hearts of believers.  The Holy Spirit regenerates us, pulls us toward the path of right, and stirs us to become more like Christ. The same Holy Spirit has been given to believers to empower us for the service of showing  the Kingdom of God through our lives and experiences. The Holy Spirit brings people together to form a corporate community of believers. We believe that Christ has established a visible church.  This visible church is not limited by name, title, or denomination, but consists of all of Christ's believers across the globe. We believe that Christ created this worldwide church to live in the power of the Holy Spirit regulated by the authority of the Holy Scripture, exercising discipline, honestly participating in the sacraments, and preaching the Gospel of Christ.

We believe that the Bible in its entirety is divine revelation, and we submit to the authority of Holy Scripture, acknowledging it to be inspired by God and carrying the full weight of His authority.

We are committed to the social and cultural implications of God's commandments for the well-being of all people and our world.  We believe that our faith should show through our personal and social behavior.

We believe that sexual purity should mark our lives as God's people, and so we affirm the Scriptural teaching of sexual abstinence until marriage of one man and one woman for life.

We seek to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, living in love and obedience until He comes again to complete His plan for the world and fully establish his Kingdom.
