Welcome to Project Sunshine.

Project Sunshine is a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization, which provides numerous free programs and services to children with cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses. We are a 100% volunteer organization and all of our volunteers are devoted to improving the lives of the children and families we serve.

Mission.

The children that Project Sunshine reaches out to are normally in much pain, and can too easily lose their inner strength and drive to live. Inner strength is a vital component for pulling through long and arduous treatments. Children may lose their hair and even the color in their faces, but with our help, their courage will remain strong. Although we cannot answer the question "why?," we can hold their hands and provide a reason to smile.

History

In the early 1990s, Joseph Weilgus, a volunteer at children's hospitals in New York City, decided he wanted to alleviate the pain and suffering sick children endure by bringing laughter and hope back into their lives. With that goal in mind, he founded Project Sunshine. The mission statement is simple - to provide various free programs and services to children with cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses that help alleviate their pain. The idea was an instant success. In less than five years, the organization had spread to over sixteen US cities and two Canadian cities. Project Sunshine is now formally recognized as a not-for-profit organization. Project Sunshine is a 100% volunteer organization. Furthermore, any and all donations given to Project Sunshine go directly to helping the children. These two principles serve as the guiding pillars of the organization.
