Members of the International Club

Tristan Chen

Tristan is a rising junior Economics and History double major and current Co-President of International Club. He is from the great city of Nanjing (also referred as Nanking) which has 2,500 years history and has been the capital city of the Chinese Empire in six different dynasties. He has been playing basketball since 10 years old and was the PG on his high school basketball varsity team. He is very involved on campus. Besides International Club, Tristan is a brother of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, Vice-President of ODE and member of other organizations such as USG and CSP.
Some of Tristan's favorite stuff are: Legend of the Fall, Norah Jones, Phantom of the Opera, Pride and Prejudice, Great Expectations, Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (Yi Tian Tu Long Ji) by Jinyong. The love story in this Chinese sword-fighting novel touches him deeply.
Tristan has a broad interest in the humanities and social sciences and will eventually apply for graduate school. He is always excited to talk about economics and financial market with people.

Akil Murthi

Akil Murthi serves as the Co-President of the International Club. He is a 3rd year Management major with a concentration in Finance. He was born and raised in Chennai, India and came to the U.S. to obtain his collegiate degree. On campus, he is a Brother of the Business Fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and a member of the Undergraduate Indian Students Association. Akil loves playing ping pong and enjoys playing it with new people. He loves hanging out with his friends and is really hoping to get to know each and every International student better, as well as helping in any way he can.

Sanchit Goyal

Sanchit Goyal is a 3rd year Electrical Engineering major and serves as the treasurer of the International Club. Born and raised in India, Sanchit moved to the US his junior year of high school. He enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and anything that is adventurous. He is excited to meet all the new international students and looks forward to learning a lot from them.

Andrew Franco

Andrew Franco serves as the Secretary for International Club. He is a 3rd year Biology major and enjoys free food, rocking out with his friends, and candlelit dinners. Franco was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but some say he is 10% Indian. He looks forward to both contributing and learning a lot from I-club.

Chen Qiu

Chen Qiu is a rising sophomore with Biomedical Engineering major and Economics minor. She was originally from Beijing, China, and came to America at age 16. She loves her home country China deeply; at the same time, she has been amazed by the diversity of American culture. She attended Menaul High School in Albuquerque, NM for two years, and has become a Christian, inspired by Menaul High School's religion education. She was the Senior President, Math Club tutor, School Choir Member, Student Government Officer during high school. She had also worked for Congresswoman Heather Wilson during the summer of 2008.
Chen has studied hard after she came to Case, and has kept a GPA of 4.0 throughout her freshman year. She encourages the incoming international students to explore different directions of interests when they are choosing majors and minors, and relax if this is the first time for them to enter America. Chen can't wait to offer helps for all of the international students. She is also so excited to see the number of international students at Case is increasing, and wants to welcome all of them for coming to Case Western Reserve University.
Chen is interested in math, material science, computer programming and engineering applications, and plans to enter industrial fields after graduation.

Sipa Yankey

Sipa is a rising Junior Chemistry/Pre-Med major and a current member of the International Club. He is from the West African country of Ghana. Born and raised in the capital Accra, Sipa found his way to Case Western Reserve to pursue his undergrad career just as his sister had done years before him. Sipa participates in a variety of intramural sports but has a strong passion for the game of Soccer. Sipa is involved on campus and besides being part of the International Club, Sipa is currently the President of the DHW Pre-Med Society, a Resident Assistant in the Second Year Experience, Vice-President of Urban Elementz (Case's Hip-Hop Dance Team), and a Peer Tutor for ESS.
This year Sipa also received the Laurie Zelmann award for Most Outstanding International Student at the CWRU Student Leadership Awards. Sipa does not have a favorite movie but loves to watch Comedy or Action flicks. Sipa has a love for the sciences and hopes to go to Medical School after undergrad.

Ashwin Jain

Ashwin Jain is a rising junior majoring in chemistry and biomedical engineering and currently the social chair of International Club. He grew up in Northborough, MA, about an hour away from Boston, but has learned to call Cleveland his second home. On campus, he is the vice-president of EKTA dance productions, and he is also involved in undergraduate India Students Association and engineers without borders. Ashwin is the co-choreographer for Case elite Raas Goondas and Case's premier Sharath dance teams. Lastly, he is known as DJ Shwindar on his show, Aaja Nachle, which is broadcasted on WRUW FM 91.1 Cleveland.
In his free time, Ashwin just likes to get out and meet new people, which he usually does through his dance teams. Dancing usually takes up a lot of his time, but in the free time he does have, he practices the martial arts, which he has earned the rank of black belt.
In the 2009-2010 school year, Ashwin plans to be a tour guide, and become a brother of either delta tau delta or phi kappa psi fraternities. Finally, he plans to apply graduate school, with plans of becoming a physical therapist.

Kayla Wheeler

Kayla Wheeler hails from the BEST city in the world, Cleveland, Ohio. She is a rising junior, majoring in political science and religious studies with a minor in Arabic. She plans on moving to Saudi Arabia after graduating and hopes to eventually become a congress woman for this congressional district. Along with being a new member of the International Club, Kayla is the co-founder and co-president of Women in Liberal Arts (WILA), a Spartan Cheerleader, a member of RHA, a CCEL tutor, and a tour guide for the Undergraduate Admission Office. In her spare time she enjoys playing and composing music. She also has an unhealthy obsession with OSU football and the Cleveland Browns and knows that Brady Quinn will bring home a championship :) She encourages all students to break out of the Case bubble in order to meet new people and experience everything awesome that Cleveland/Case has to offer. Kayla is really excited to share her culture and meet new people, especially international students.

Irene Tsung

Irene Tsung serves as PR chair for International Club. She is a 3rd year Biomedical Engineering student from Perrysburg, Ohio. She enjoys swimming, playing piano, laughing, and bumming around in good weather. Irene loves meeting new people, so don't be shy to meet her!
