Engineers
Week
February 18-23
|
|
Fifty
years after its inception, National Engineers Week continues to promote
awareness of engineering professions and accomplishments. The innovative
and enterprising nature that permeates the engineering profession
has always been a part of the American experience. West Point was
established after George Washington, who was a military engineer and
land surveyor before he became president, called for the founding
of an engineering school in the United States. For this reason, National
Engineers Week is always celebrated around the first president’s birthday.
This year at CWRU, the Engineers Week activities were co-sponsored
by the Case School of Engineering, the Case Engineers Council, the
Office of Development Programs, the Undergraduate Alumni Association,
and corporate sponsor Accenture.

Mmmmmmmm...students
enjoyed non-dining hall food at this annual event, held at Sammy’s
at the Metropolitan. Students mingled with faculty and alumni and
had the opportunity to hear keynote speaker Carl J. Meade, a veteran
of three NASA space shuttle missions.

Junior electrical engineering major Fulter
Hong and sophomore bionedical engineering major Kristin Frinkley make
peanut butter and jelly sandwiches during an Engineers Week community
service activity. In the spirit of the service that engineers provide
to the community, CWRU students prepared sandwiches for a meal provider
associated with Harvest for Hunger.
