We always welcome anyone interested in commedia dell'arte, masked theatre, improv, farce, slapstick, and performing. All of our meetings and rehearsals are open for anyone to attend and learn and all our members are here to answer any questions. Anyone can audition for any show. Behind-the-scenes help is always needed. And of course, we encourage audience members!

Acting: Commedia is called actors theatre because of the power of improv to the actor above the written scenario or direction. Every show needs actors to play parts and most shows can be tailored to include additional parts as people who are interested. Some people join us for one show but many stay for numerous productions, building on the same character or trying out new roles.

Writing: most of our plays and events are created from scratch by members of the troupe. Even plays inspired or borrowed from other troupes are modified for i Verdi Confusi and our audience. The best part of dramatic writing for Commedia is being able to see actors testing out scenes and then performing them on stage in only a short time.

Backstage: as with any theatrical production, we have behind-the-scenes help creating masks and costumes, building sets or props, or assisting during the performances. Video production - of recorded performances or outside material - is a growing part of the troupe.

Audience: no performance is complete without an audience - and Commedia especially needs one! While we invite anyone interested to join us on stage, we encourage people to come watch. Commedia characters interact with the audience more than most types of theatre. Traditionally, audiences would regularly attending performances and get to know the characters they continued to see. Many jokes are in-jokes shared with the audience from show to show.
