Thursday, November 18 - Free
Speech Zone
In light of the
growing list of human rights violations at the hands of the Bush administration,
we need to put forth an oppositional yet positive presence. We will be
completely covering KSL Oval with art about the social issues of the
moment. Banners between every light post, art and music, patches and
buttons. Come and prepared to be overwhelmed in awe. Starts at 11:30 AM, KSL Oval.
Thursday, October 28 - Issue
1 Protest
Come join us as
we protest Issue 1, the anti-family, anti-business amendment that, if
passed, will obliterate benefits currently in place for unmarried couples,
such as hospital visitation rights. Starts
at 11 AM, KSL Oval (rainsite is Thwing Atrium). E-mail Winnie
for more information.
Tuesday, October 5 - Don't
Have a Ticket to the VP Debate? Participate Anyway!
Let your voice be
heard! Starts at 6 PM, KSL Oval.
Thursday, September 23 - Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War
From the Uncovered website: "In his
documentary feature, UNCOVERED: THE WAR ON IRAQ, filmmaker Robert Greenwald
chronicles the Bush Administration’s determined quest to invade Iraq
following the events of September 11, 2001. The film deconstructs the
administration’s case for war through interviews with U.S
intelligence and defense officials, foreign service experts, and U.N.
weapons inspectors – including a former CIA director, a former
ambassador to Saudi
Arabia and even President’s
Bush’s Secretary of the Army. Their analyses and conclusions are
sobering, and often disturbing, regardless of one’s political
affiliations." Starts at 7 PM, Clark 309. Co-sponsored with Case for Peace.
Tuesday, September 21- Unconstitutional: The War on Our Civil
Liberties
From the ACLU website:
"Unconstitutional is a new, hour-long documentary from Robert
Greenwald -- one of the most prolific and progressive producers in Hollywood -- in
conjunction with the ACLU. This new film, written, directed and produced by
Nonny de la Peña,
details the shocking way that civil liberties of American citizens and
immigrants alike have been infringed upon, curtailed, and rolled back since
9/11 and the USA Patriot Act." Starts
at 7 PM, Clark 309. Co-sponsored with Case
for Peace and Case ACLU.
Saturday, September 18 -
GLBTQQIA Picnic
Come for food,
fun, and more at this upcoming picnic with the campus's other GLBTQQIA
organizations. Starts at 12:30 PM,
KSL Oval. Co-sponsored with Spectrum, Case Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, the Case Center
for Women, the Share the Vision Committee, and the Office of Multicultural
Affairs.
Thursday, September 16 -
Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election
From the Unprecedented website:
"Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election is the riveting story
about the battle for the Presidency in Florida
and the undermining of democracy in America. Filmmakers Richard Ray
Pérez and Joan Sekler
examine modern America's
most controversial political contest: the election of George W. Bush. What
emerges is a disturbing picture of an election marred by suspicious
irregularities, electoral injustices, and sinister voter purges in a state
governed by the winning candidate's brother." Starts at 7 PM, Clark
309. Co-sponsored with Case for Peace.
Wednesday, September 15 - Ma Vie
En Rose (My Life in Pink)
From ReelViews: "Equal parts fantasy, satire, and
pathos, Ma Vie en Rose
investigates the role of sexual stereotypes in today's culture, and shows
how the more conservative elements of society encourage conformity and
stifle diversity. In terms of both its style and story, this is one of
1997's few unique motion pictures; it's understandable why it has captured
a landslide of film festival awards." Free food! A discussion will
follow the viewing of the film. Starts
at 9 PM, e-mail Erin for location of
film.
Tuesday, September 14 -
Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism
From the Outfoxed website: "Outfoxed
examines how media empires, led by Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, have been
running a 'race to the bottom' in television news. This film provides an
in-depth look at Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations
taking control of the public's right to know." Starts at 7 PM, Mather
Memorial 225. Co-sponsored with Case for Peace.
Thursday, August 26 -
