Competitive Team
Our competitive team is going through a resurrection of sorts. After a strong period in the early and mid 1990s, membership fell and the team went through a low period. Over the last few years, this has changed and the team has begun to grow again. In 2003, on a whim, the team, as small as it was, decided to attend Ohio Star Ball. Since then, with some new coaches and a small group of dedicated dancers, we have made this a tradition.
We've added MIT, Pittsburgh, and Ohio State to our competitive repertoire and have consistently brought more and more couples to these competitions. At first, we only had couples dancing newcomer, but now are represented in in bronze and even into some silver divisions. We've even added a formation team which we brought into competition in last March, winning second place and a scholarship at the Pittsburgh Dancesport Championships.
We currently are focusing on the bronze syllabus with four hours of coaching each week. This is supplemented with three, 2-hour days of practice. Many of us never thought we'd be in this position, so if you'd like to try dancing and you've got a little competitive streak, come on and check us out. |
