Human and E. coli Lon Differ In Substrate Specificity

We have developed a fluorescent peptide substrate to study the kinetic mechanism of Lon protease. This is the first synthetic peptide reported to stimulate the ATPase activity of Lon during its degradation.

Through kinetic analysis, we discovered that bacterial and human Lon differ in their peptide substrate specificity.
